It’s that time of the year when dinner parties, casual get-togethers and all forms of quality time with friends and family keep our schedules jam-packed. A fun time indeed! For a lovely quiet Sunday lunch with my little family, I decided to try out this recipe which consists of a flavourful garlic salsa mash potato, tasty and succulent pepper steak, topped with a creamy mushroom sauce. My husband declared this his favourite dish so guess that’s enough said…it’s a winner!
To treat your loved ones or just yourself (no judgement here!) here’s the recipe:
Pepper Steak, Creamy Mushroom Sauce and Salsa Mash
Serves 4
Pepper Steak
- 500g steak strips
- Crushed sea salt to taste
- Lemon pepper
- Freshly ground black pepper
- Steak and chops spice
- 2-3 cloves garlic minced
- Crushed green chillie
- Worcester sauce
- Marinate the steak in the above and leave for a few hours.
- Fry the steak in a little olive oil on a hot pan until all the water has almost completely cooked out.
- Melt a block of butter, Nandos pepper sauce and a dash of fresh cream – heat in a small pan and pour over steaks. Cover and leave to rest
Mushroom Sauce
- Butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Garlic
- 1 punnet mushrooms sliced
- 250ml fresh cream
- Melt the butter in a sauce pan and sautè the mushrooms with the salt, pepper and garlic.
- Add fresh cream and allow the sauce to simmer on medium heat until the sauce thickens.
Salsa Mash
- 4 potatoes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Butter
- Milk
- Garlic butter
- 1 small onion chopped
- 1 green pepper chopped
- 1 green chillie crushed
- Boil and mash potatoes with butter, salt & pepper and milk
- Braise in garlic butter the onion, green pepper and chillie then add to mash and mix well
Assemble the above by creating a bed of mash potato, cover with the pepper steak strips, top with the creamy mushroom sauce, finally garnish with fresh coriander. Enjoy the video below!
