Pepper Steak, Creamy Mushroom Sauce and Salsa Mash Potato

It’s that time of the year when dinner parties, casual get-togethers and all forms of quality time with friends and family keep our schedules jam-packed. A fun time indeed! For a lovely quiet Sunday lunch with my little family, I decided to try out this recipe which consists of a flavourful garlic salsa mash potato, tasty and succulent pepper steak, topped with a creamy mushroom sauce. My husband declared this his favourite dish so guess that’s enough said…it’s a winner!

To treat your loved ones or just yourself (no judgement here!) here’s the recipe:

Pepper Steak, Creamy Mushroom Sauce and Salsa Mash

Serves 4

  • 2-3 cloves garlic minced
  • Crushed green chillie

  1. Marinate the steak in the above and leave for a few hours.
  2. Fry the steak in a little olive oil on a hot pan until all the water has almost completely cooked out.
  3. Melt a block of butter, Nandos pepper sauce and a dash of fresh cream – heat in a small pan and pour over steaks. Cover and leave to rest

Mushroom Sauce

  • Butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Garlic
  • 1 punnet mushrooms sliced
  • 250ml fresh cream
  1. Melt the butter in a sauce pan and sautè the mushrooms with the salt, pepper and garlic.
  2. Add fresh cream and allow the sauce to simmer on medium heat until the sauce thickens.

Salsa Mash

  • 4 potatoes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Butter
  • Milk
  • Garlic butter
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 green pepper chopped
  • 1 green chillie crushed
  1. Boil and mash potatoes with butter, salt & pepper and milk

Assemble the above by creating a bed of mash potato, cover with the pepper steak strips, top with the creamy mushroom sauce, finally garnish with fresh coriander. Enjoy the video below!
